Guild Sabotage! Anet Staff and Fellow GUILD LEADERS TAKE NOTE!!
My guild, Sacred Asian Alliance, is a guild that has been formed since 29th April and currently have over 60 members.
Recently, actually today, my guild was involved in an EXTREMELY malicious act of sabotage. One of the members, xxxxxxxxxxxx, went to our guild hall and got a team of 7 henchmen and went ahead to conduct over 15 guild battles! ALL which he purposely lost. This was evidenced by by fellow guild officers who happened to be in the guild hall at that moment and noticed him popping back to the guild hall every few seconds, run to the henchmen and disappear again! This has caused our ranking to drop tenfold and we are now unfortunately ranked over 1,400.... I am writing this to alert the community out there that there are such people around who do go around spoiling other peoples' games on purpose. I have a couple of suggestions that I hope Anet can take note of and implement it sooner rather than later: 1)Guild Battles to be initiated only by Guild Leader and Guild Officers. I find this to be very appropriate as no one in a guild will want someone who has no experience taking on the hordes of experienced players out there. Akin to a similar war, will an army officer allow his corporal to lead his friends out to fight a battle? I don't think so. I know that some of you may say that it serves me right for getting players like that into my guild, but I believe that the guild member who you played with for 5 hours and like him may have a similar tendency to be able to commit such a heinous act. ( you never know what a person is capable of doing). 2) Only GUILD LEADER have the right to appoint officers. This is an independant case but I believe that fellow officers should not be allowed to appoint fellow members to the rank of officer. This should be a priviledge only the leader should enjoy. 3) All guild battles to be logged. (Time of battle, team leader of each guild for battle involved). This is to allow ease of identification of the person responsible for guild battle initiations that are conducted without permission. Anyone out there who have any comments on this are free to comment or criticise. All i know is that my guild has been burnt by this experience and we do not wish the same fate to befall other guilds. |

Yes, if it is unrated, I am sure no guild leader will mind as it lets the members train in a realistic environment without fear of the matches being rated.
So Rated matches are leader and officers exclusive while Unrated can be initiated by anyone |

Combine the lack of any real repercussion on the internet for something other than a "real" crime, the pseudo anonimity of the medium, and the lack of a "you must be this mature to play this game" standard and you have the makings of a volatile environment.
A good reputation is hard to come by, especially one that was earned through hard work whether in a "virtual" world or not, so it really hurts to see incidents like this make things harder on people. |

I was online yesterday when someone was running around asking if anyone knew who this person was that did this to your record. At first I thought is was very childish for someone to run around saying "Someone went into a guild battle with out the guild leaders permission" and that was before I heard all the details.
Here is how I see it. It is unfortunate you spent a lot of time building up your reputation in the guild world and someone would just either knowingly or unknowingly conducted guild battles and destroy everything you and other members worked hard to build. To me seems kind of crappy. But (and there is always a but) You said you have been around since the 29th of April that???s a little under a month with 60 members. That means you recruit an average of 2 members a day. Mature or not mature it don???t matter as long as they join. I would venture to bet you haven???t played with even half of your members. This to me is not a guild, this to me is someone who can run around and say my guild is bigger than yours. If you decide to create another guild keep this in mind it is not the size of the guild but the quality of the people you surround yourself with. You can have a great guild and achieve everything you want in this game at 10 or 20 dedicated people. So in my opinion and don???t take this the wrong way but I believe you may be partly responsible for what happened because your own bad recruiting practices. |

Your in luck my friend, check the guild wars official web site (www.guildwars.com) and on the upcoming updates you will find the following:
"In order to start a guild battle -- to either issue or accept a challenge -- we will require that at least one guild officer be present on each team. This system will help guilds protect their rating by removing the potential for malicious or careless actions on the part of a guild member." |

How did he get 7 henchies? Do you mean 4 henchies? There aren't the full compliment of henchies available in guild hall.

I, as a fellow guild leader, am appauled that people actually take amusement in ruining other people's hard work. Luckily, my guild has about 30 members, but we are yet to obtain a guild hall because we are building a team to win the HoH instead of buying a sigil like many guilds. When I recruit, I ensure all members read the code of conduct, and I watch their behaviour on the forums before adding them in game, thus to ensure they are actually of a mature mind.
Sorry to hear about your rank drop, posting here will make all of us aware, thank you |

Same thing is happening to us, happened right after we merged with another guild, sadly they all had to be removed because no one would fess up to it. But it is only a number, and can be fixed in no time at all. I can't wait for the fix though.

Sounds like what you want is TWL (Team Warfare League) www.teamwarfare.com. The Halo clan im in plays matches in it, and the rules are very strict, but since people still manage to cheat and the fact that most of us in the clan are in highschool it is hard to have good scheduled matches and have enough time to practice. TWL works great if you have a big enough clan and good members, for halo anyway, to actually win or go down fighting a good match.
Im thinking of starting my own guild, and recruiting from cities is kind of dumb. Go on missions with people and then try them out. The people i my friends list are the ones that i played in missions with and had a good time. Isnt it only possible to be in one guild at a time, but you can have 2 characters in the same account but be in 2 different guilds? |

Your problem is over or will be over soon. If I remember correctly, now ro maybe in the next update, a guild officer must be in a team inorder for that team to fight in GvG battles. Looks like it is not just you.

#1 - You got your answer and its been shown by a few others already.
#2 - What in the world are officers good for if they don't even have a little bit of responsibility. Not being able to promote seems kinda harsh. Why not talk it out instead of just let players jump in (after being assigned officer by you) and do whatever the hell they want. This sounds like an issue that is internal. Looks like there is a bit of cleaning up to do. #3 - Great idea and hope it too becomes added in along with #1 on the new updates or at least in the near future. |

Too bad about the guild ladder. It now just goes to 1000, so you need an above average record to be listed.

I'm lucky with my guild. At the moment we're small (8 members) and made up of fellow workers in the strip mall I'm in as well as family members I've cajoled into getting their own copy of GW. My plan is to appoint 6 of them officers, and the way we plan on recruiting is to have each person had a team of those looking for a guild, then recommending to me who we accept. Based on what they say, I'll decide whether to let this person is.
I know that's not 100% effective in keeping out the jerks, but at least it's some kind of filter. You can usually tell what kind of a player someone is when you're in a PUG with them. |
